STAPLE FOODS BOX PROGRAM

Our Family has been praying about and seeking a way to help those around us as the economy continues to be in ill health and folks are struggling with the higher prices of food, gas, etc. We’re tired of seeing high prices when we just know there has to be a way to cut the costs.

For those who don't know her, Mom is...well, cheap and stubborn (please don't tell her we said this!) If there is a way to get quality but do it cheaper, Mom will sniff it out. It's almost scary. Joseph is the wonder boy of inventory. Our suppliers love him. For months, they have been working together to find a way to create a box program similar to the Produce Box Program but for the staple foods a family needs. Between the two of them, they figured out how to do it.

For those of you familiar with our Produce Box Program, we will be implementing the same concept with the food staples such as Flours, sugars, cereals, beans, grains, oats, pastas, spices, vegetables, butter, cheeses, eggs, etc.

It is our hope to help those in the Vienna community and surrounding areas to eat better while paying less for more.

We will be including many recipes in each box as well. Many of these recipes will show you how to cook great meals in the slow cooker (crock pot) as well as breads and desserts. For instance, when we were younger, Mom would cook the main course in one slow cooker, our bread in another, and a fruit dessert or yogurt in a third slow cooker. We would work and play all day and were then able to come inside to a wonderful dinner that didn’t have to be thrown together at the last minute. We hope these recipes will come in handy for those of you who work long days but still want a quality dinner when you come home.

There will be 2 types of boxes. There will be the standard box and the whole grains box. There will be a price difference and variety difference due to the ingredient differences.

Sign ups will begin tomorrow for the Standard Staples Box and we’ll announce exactly what will be in that first box later today or tomorrow. Currently the contents of the box would cost you just over $100 if you were to buy all off-brands and low quality (yes, we price checked!) but if you were to be buying comparable brands to what you will be receiving, it would run right around $145 - $150. We'll be charging $75 plus tax. The boxes are once a month but you can choose to purchase as many boxes as you wish, since some family sizes may require more than 1 box to meet their needs. The first boxes will be available September 13th (a Thursday).

We will present the Whole Grains Staples Box in the next few days as well. Please be patient with us as we get everything put together for you and work out the kinks.
