How to Make your own Onion Soup Mix (like you can buy in the packages at the store)

In speaking with a friend today, I was reminded that we both got our "recipe" for making Homemade Onion Soup Mix from a mutual friend. We both thought we'd share it tonight on our pages. I hope you find it useful.

A number of folks use the packages of onion soup mix that you buy in the stores. I don't like the store bought packages for a few reasons. They almost always contain several or all of the following: soy (which is typically GMO), corn syrup, msg, hydrogenated oils, etc. So that worries me, but knowing you can make your own without all that AND it is more cost effective, ensures that I will make my own. Here is how:

HOMEMADE ONION SOUP MIX

2/3 c. dried, minced onion
3 tsp. parsley flakes
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp salt (we use sea salt)
1 tsp sugar (we use sucar)
1/2 tsp ground pepper

Put all the ingredients in a jar and them mix them up by shaking the jar.

Use 4 Tablespoons of your Homemade Onion Soup Mix in a recipe in place of 1 packet of onion soup mix. Store in a dry, cool place.

NOTE: It is recommend that you shake the jar to mix the ingredients well before each use.

  1. I used to use the store bought soup mix in recipes such as my meatloaf. But recently I have been cutting out MSG where ever possible, this was one of them. Now, thanks to you! I can go back to my old meatloaf recipe. You are awesome!

  2. You're so welcome! Let me know how it works out. You shouldn't be able to tell the difference, but I'd like to know what you think. Enjoy!
